The Northern York County Rod & Gun Club feels that it is our duty to not only promote sporting activities we so enjoy, but to also stress the importance of being safe and ethical while taking part in those activities. Every year, we conduct a two day Hunter Safety Course that meets the guidelines set forth by the State of Maine. We recommend this course not only for new hunters - but also for experienced hunters to once again refresh themselves with the many topics covered throughout the course.
Our 2010 Spring Class is scheduled for March 16th (Tuesday night) 6 - 9PM and 27th (Saturday) 8AM - 5PM. Contact any club officer for details.
The fall class was a huge success. We had a full class and had to turn a few down due to size of our room. Each person added to the class. The main instructors, Tim Corbin and Alan Johnson were and are incredibly valuable. Their experience as hunters/guides as well as varied personal experiences gave the class a hands on feeling. Please check later for the up coming Spring class. Check the Club Only tab so see a few images from the 2009 Spring Class.
You must be in attendance for the entire course and obtain a passing grade on the exam. You are also required to have a SURVIVAL KIT on the last day of class.
The minimum items required are:
KNIFE, COMPASS, WHISTLE, MATCHES IN A WATERPROOF CONTAINER, A SECOND FIRE-MAKING METHOD, FIRE STARTER MATERIAL, SOAP, WATER PURIFICATION TABLETS, ANY PERSONAL MEDICATION, FIRST AID KIT, DRINKING CONTAINER, NYLON CORD OR ROPE, EXTRA PAIR OF GLASSES (if worn), FLASHLIGHT, EMERGENCY SHELTER, SIGNALING MIRROR. These items can be in a backpack, fanny pack, least of all a zip-lock bag.
It is suggested that students bring a bag lunch with them on the full Saturday day.
